Outreach Opportunities

Buffalo-Niagara Waterkeeper at Calvary
Calvary Episcopal Church in Williamsville (20 Milton St.) has invited us to participate in their community service event with Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper.

They will be assembling supply boxes for the Shoreline Sweep and will be making t-shirt bags to store the supplies for that event.

The event will take place on Saturday March 23 from noon to 3pm.

High school students can earn community service hours for attending the event.  If you have any sturdy t-shirts that you would like to donate to the cause, you can drop them off at Calvary during the event.

Lent Madness
Some people take on additional giving to a charity during Lent.  Lent Madness is a completion modeled on the March Madness basketball tournament.  There is a competition between two saints every day in Lent.  You fill out your bracket.  You can vote for a saint each day at lentmadness.org.

This year we are using Lent Madness as a fundraiser for Episcopal Relief and Development.   For every winning saint you picked make a $1 contribution, for every saint you pick who didn’t win, make a $2 contribution.  You can find out more about Episcopal Relief and Development at episcopalrelief.org.

Two Ways to Help School 6
Help with Food
– We are still looking for a few people to help with food once a month or so.  We deliver food from 9 to 11 am on Thursday mornings when school is in session.  The work involves putting bags of food into shopping carts, labelling the bags and dropping them off in the correct classroom.  If you are available and willing to help please contact GG Michaels at ggmichaels44@gmail.com.

Bike Transport  - Do you have a truck or van that we could put two bikes in?  Are you available during the school day?  Would you be willing to pick up two bikes at Bert’s Bikes on Transit Road and drive them down to School 6?  If so, we need you.  St. Paul’s is donating two bikes to School 6 as part of their Leader in Every Seat program and we need help getting the bikes from Bert’s to School 6.  If you are able to help contact Pastor Vicki at paulsrector@gmail.com.

Could You Change a Life?
Say Yes Buffalo is looking for people to mentor Say Yes Scholars as they transition from high school to college.  The mentor is assigned at the beginning of the scholar’s senior year of high school and commits to the relationship through the first year of college.

Many of the Say Yes scholars are the first in their family to attend college, so having a mentor who can help with college struggles, expectations and challenges is a huge help.

Expectations of mentors are:

If you might be interested in being a mentor, contact Stephanie Rivera at srivera@sayyesbuffalo.org

Hearts and Hands
Hearts and Hands Faith in Action is a ministry that helps senior citizens stay independent by providing volunteers help.

St. Paul’s is a sponsoring congregation for Hearts and Hands.  The ministry works because people volunteer to do what they can.  They have particular needs for people to drive clients to appointments and for minor home repairs.

Hearts and Hands will provide training and screening for volunteers – they then coordinate their clients needs with the availability of volunteers.  Hearts and Hands cover their volunteers with liability insurance and can pay mileage reimbursement if you need it.

There is a flyer on the Outreach bulletin board in the hallway with information on how to contact Hearts and Hands to get more information or to volunteer.
