Outreach Opportunities

School 6 & Harris Hill Elementary
St. Paul’s has relationships with two schools.

We are a part of the Harris Hill Elementary School family.  Harris Hill Elementary is right across the street from the church.

We are a community partner for School 6/ Buffalo Elementary School of Technology in Buffalo.  School 6 is located on South Division St., just a few blocks from Oak St.

We have the opportunity to be a part of classrooms at both schools.

At Harris Hill we are invited to be help with any age level K- 5.  All that is needed is an hour a week when school is in session and a willingness to spend time with a small group of kids.  Any time that you have available Monday – Friday between 8 and 2 will work.

At School 6 we are invited to work with kindergarten or 1st grade class rooms.  They need us to work with small groups of children, mostly on their reading.  Listening to them read, reading with them, helping them with their sight words.  We are trying to get volunteers in 3 classrooms on Thursday mornings from 8:30 to 10 am.  You can volunteer one week a month, or two or three weeks a month or every week.  We will make up teams for each classroom and schedules of who is expected which week.

We also help with a weekend food pack program at School 6.  There are many families who rely on the breakfast and lunch program at the school to have enough food.  We send packs of non-perishable food home with the children in those families each weekend so that they have food for Saturday and Sunday.  We need volunteers to help pack the bags of food and get them labelled and ready to distribute.  We usually work between 10 and noon on Thursdays.

There is a sign up sheet in the parish hall for all of these roles.

Hearts and Hands
Hearts and Hands Faith in Action is a ministry that helps senior citizens stay independent by providing volunteers help.

St. Paul’s is a sponsoring congregation for Hearts and Hands.  The ministry works because people volunteer to do what they can.  They have particular needs for people to drive clients to appointments and for minor home repairs.

Hearts and Hands will provide training and screening for volunteers – they then coordinate their clients needs with the availability of volunteers.  Hearts and Hands cover their volunteers with liability insurance and can pay mileage reimbursement if you need it.

There is a flyer on the Outreach bulletin board in the hallway with information on how to contact Hearts and Hands to get more information or to volunteer.
